Everyone arrived at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington Kentucky on Thursday, May 1st. A “Southern Traditions” Welcome Reception set the tone for the event, and female guests were treated to a one-on-one consultation with award winning Fabulous Hats- the finished creations were amazing to see on Derby Day!
On Friday, May 2nd, the group enjoyed a tour of one of Lexington’s premier thoroughbred horse farms, followed by a VIP tour at Buffalo Trace Distillery. After a relaxing afternoon of golf and spa, the evening was capped off by dinner at the legendary Mansion at Griffin Gate.
Saturday, May 3rd, was Derby Day and the Marco sales team and their guests experienced the Run for the Roses in style! The group enjoyed mint juleps and club level box seats right on the finish line and had a perfect view of Big Brown’s victory. Of course, the Derby was quite the celebrity turnout event. Kyle Hamill, Director of Sales at the Marco Island Marriott had a chat with Heavyweight Champ Lennox Lewis. Meanwhile, former Van Halen rocker Sammy Hagar couldn’t resist his wife Austin Hamill’s hat, and bought it off her head right there at the Derby!
Following a post-derby dinner at the acclaimed Eqqus restaurant, the group returned to Lexington, agreeing that the entire event was truly once-in-a-lifetime.
