The General Manager of the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort was arrested at 10:00 am this morning.  Rick Medwedeff was put in handcuffs and placed in a police car and driven to the Marco Beach Ocean Resort and thrown in jail.

Rick was charged with raising a minimum of $2500.00 in bail in order to be released (all proceeds will benefit Muscular Dystrophy Association), “I have a feeling there’s a great deal of Marriott Associates that will help him by donating to this very worthy cause” Resident Manager Mike Tighe was quoted this morning. Steve Lipschutz, Director of Food and Beverage, Eyal Goldberger, Kurrents Specialty Restaurant Manager, Bianca O’Neil Quinn’s Restaurant Manager and Lisa Grover one of the resort’s Event Managers were some of the other notable arrests today.

The resort is well known for being a leader in charitable causes. April 25 and 26th of this year our associates participated in the American Cancer Relay for Life Event on Marco Island.  Our two chairpersons Judy Mayo and Brittany Gardner did an outstanding job organizing and helping raise approximately $8,000, and still counting.  While demonstrating the “Spirit to Serve” which is such and important part of the Marriott culture the resort had the most representation of any team throughout the relay.  Additionally, Sonia Class and Angie Piatelli both stayed all night long to support our relay team members.  Sonia even had her daughter with her sleeping in a chair in order to support the cause.  Another associate that should be recognized is Jeff Rand who was our “graveyard” walker - we could not have done it without him.

Thanks to everyone involved for perpetuating the “Spirit to serve”.

Wow, I just feel bad for his family. It is a small Island and tough to hide skeletons in your closet.

That’s not even funny! You nearly gave me a heart attack. But I get it now. All for Charity! I met Rick a year ago and he is one of the kindest most understanding people I have ever met. I am a little slow in reading news (6 months later), but glad to see this was a charitable event. A little shocking at first. The Marco Marriott is my favorite place to decompress and visit. Glad all is well. You are a good sport Mr. Medwedeff. You can always count on me for bail money!

    Best to all.
    Francesca
